Critic #2: Muatasim

I like the second version because it has more information than the first one. The reason is that it has multiple continents involved and color-coded from starting point to the destinations of the immigrants. Utilize icons more to signify the conditions of immigrants at each step of their way. In addition, have a legend to distinguish between levels of immigrants journey.

I added routes that immigrants take in order to get to their destinations. The routes are signified by the dotted line from one location to another.

I like the first version because it emulates the color better but the curves that distinguish the regions are necessary. The outline of the maps should be white and the maps should be fills without borders. The text content should be consistent with the model. Add title to the map to give understanding.

I fixed the stretched text inconsistency and fixed alignments.  I did not add a title due to the self-explanatory look of the map. I will add it in the future to be more discrete.

Moved the dots to the left side of the text content. All the text is now consistent with size, weight, and color. Changed the color of the routes into black to differentiate between the borders and the routes themselves.

Adjusted the map size and made it look proportional. Added names of the countries. In addition, dimmed the color of other countries to highlight countries that are affected the most by immigration and human trafficking.

I like the first version of the location element. It emulates the color model better. I am not quite sure about the second version because of there is a lot of things going on the map. The color is a lot and the outlines it doesn't emulate your model due to being highly visible. The legends used in version 1 are a little redundant because of the bullet point, line, and the curve. Changing the legends into only either the bullet points or the line with the curve and placing the text content inside it is a better look.

I chose to use the second version due to the closeness to the color, layout and visual hierarchy model. I took out the curves and lines. instead, I used dots to signify a text with a region/location.

Fixed the proportion of the African map, moved the bullet points to the left side of the text content.

Critique 1 Message & Emulation

This display is a map of the areas that are affected by human trafficking currently in the 21 century. The first version only has one continent involved which most of the immigrants come from and the second one involves 3 continents that are also affected by human trafficking and are destinations for immigrants to go.

To emulate my color model I used same colors as my model. I color coded and classified regions.

To emulate my visual language model I used text and color-coded content to get my message across.

To emulate my typography model I used same weight, font type, and size.

Place the bullet point/dots before the text on the left-hand side. Your text needs to be consistent with the size and weight. Utilize more colors to signify route, direction, and position. Change the route color to black because the outline of the countries is white you don't want to send a mixed message.

Adjust the shape of Africa using shift and the corner of the area box to proportionally adjust the size. Add the name of the countries involved to give an understanding of the story.

Change the color of the rest of the continent that is not vastly affected by human trafficking.

:

  • Fix the proportion of the african continent.

  • Move the bullet points the left hand side to be consistent.
